Born and raised in New York, NY, Emmy Rossum is already an entertainment veteran, having performed with the likes of Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti in the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, and has sung in a Carnegie Hall presentation of "The Damnation of Faust," conducted by James Levine. During her tenure at the Metropolitan Opera, Rossum performed in over twenty different operas in six different languages, and had the pleasure of working under the direction of Franco Zefferelli in "Carmen" and Tim Albery in "A Midsummer Night뭩 Dream."
Emmy made her television debut in the long-running daytime soap "As the World Turns", as Abigail Williams. She also appeared in the made-for-television movie "Genius," for which she received a nomination for the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Movie. Rossum starred in the ABC original movie "The Audrey Hepburn Story," winning critical praise for her portrayal as the young Audrey Hepburn. She also guest-starred on several television shows, including "Snoops," "Law & Order," and the critically acclaimed drama "The Practice." Emmy's additional television credits include "Only Love," "A Will of Their Own," and "Grace and Glorie."
In 2000, Emmy made her big screen debut as the Appalachian orphan Deladis in "Songcatcher." "Songcatcher" debuted in the Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January ?0, winning the Special Jury Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. Emmy received an Independent Spirit Award nomination in the category of Best Debut Performance for her portrayal as Deladis. Emmy can soon be seen in the romantic comedy "Passionada," directed by Dan Ireland and co-starring Jason Isaacs and Sofia Milos. She is also scheduled to appear in the off-beat thriller "Happy Now" set in a remote Welsh village with a cast including Ioan Gruffudd, Susan Lynch, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. She also has appeared in "It Had To Be You" and Eva Gardos' "An American Rhapsody," opposite Tony Goldwyn, Scarlett Johannson and Natasha Kinski.
When not working or in school, Emmy enjoys reading, talking on phone, and spending time with friends. Currently, Rossum divides her time between her home in Manhattan and Los Angeles.
